Comments:

We received Harvard-Yenching's data in MARC format. Robin Wendler of
Harvard University Library's Systems Office helped us do what we needed to
do to upload their records to our database.

We can now accept records either in MARC format or in regular display
format. We need tags of some kind to import the data into the file.

Due to conference and vacation schedules, please contact us after July 8 to
contribute records to ULJS. If you have trouble reaching us, please be
patient/persistent -- our office will be carpeted and there are other
planned disruptions this summer as well.

Staffing:

Koyo Hasebe, who programmed ULJS, is staying on for at least another nine
months under a temporary Visiting Researcher contract, until March 31,
1999. He will continue to be the primary person working on importing data
and doing programming for ULJS. His appointment is made possible through a
special donation to the Ohio State University Libraries from Honda R&D
Americas, Inc.

Young Joon Moon is Koyo Hasebe's successor as Graduate Research
Assistant/System Administrator. He is also working on the ULJS.

Kiyoko Yoneyama, Graduate Research Assistant in the East Asian Studies
Center, has been editing the records, de-duping, and adding vernacular
characters. She is conducting research in Japan this summer. Kiyoko will
be back in August and will resume her work on this project then.
